Homeworld May Come to the iPad

Per a twitter conversation with TouchArcade reader @nayansthankiya and Gearbox President Randy Pitchford, Gearbox is “thinking about” an iPad port, as well as how gameplay would work with the touchscreen.

I try to not get too excited about rumors, speculation, and vague statements, but Homeworld (and Homeworld: Cataclysm) were two fantastic deep-space survival games that tackled very large scale combat (dozens and dozens of ships at a time) in real-time. The musical score was exceptional, the story and narrative were brilliant, and I can’t imagine a remastered-for-iPad version wouldn’t draw a lot of attention. There are a lot of ways they could bring Homeworld to touch interfaces, the player of the games routinely zoomed in and out and selected multiple units to issue group commands, assign formations, and while some of that would need to be simplified a bit, I would love to see them do a better job with this than the ho-hum re-release of Baldur’s Gate for the iPad that we saw last year.

combat in Homeworld 2 could be very chaotic
